How many times have you visited an accordion concert? Surprising or not, it turns out that this instrument has a substancial amound of classical music written for it. Virtuoso, dance and melodic – we will hear a variety of pieces at the next Accordion Pillow Concert on March 9th, 2014 at 11:00 and 17:00.
Arriving especially for this concert is the great Polish accordion player Klaudiusz Baran. He has graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw as well as the “Paul Dukas” Conservatoire in Paris. Mr. Baran has won First prizes at the accordion competitions in Katowice (Poland), Castelfidardo (Italy) and Paris (France). He has performed in the most prestigious Polish music festivals and as a soloist in tens of orchestas around the world. Currently, the accordionist is teaching at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy where he is also Head of the Instrumental Department.

The programme consists of famous accordion pieces by Russian and Polish composers as well as the nostalgic “Cordoba” by Albeniz and the magical “Dance of the sugar plum fairy” from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” ballet. The finale is particularly appropriate for our audience – the “Bulgarian suite” by Vlacheslav Semionov.
Besides his accordion, Klaudiusz Baran will also bring his bandoneon – a very similar instrument which is rarely seen in Bulgarian. Mr. Baran’s visit is made possible with the exceptional support by the Polish Institute in Sofia.

After the gentle, magical and ethereal combination of the marimba, flute and harp’s sounds we have prepared the absolute opposite – the brass instruments! Two trumpets, а French horn, а trombone and а tuba are the brass quintet members that are going to fill up the Union of Architects’ Hall with their full and rich sound. Already familiar to our audience from the Virtuoso Pillow Concert, trumpet player Yan Dunev is the leader of this impressive ensemble. He will be joined by Iliyan Tikov (trumpet), Mihail Mihailov (French horn), Javor Kostov (trombone) and Atanas Bogoev (tuba).

The programme consists of excerpts from the operas “Carmen” by Bizet, “Aida” and “Il trovatore” by Verdi, “Der Freischütz” by Weber and the famous “Can-can” from Offenbach’s “Orphée aux enfers”. All of our young friends are invited to bring the tambourines, maracas, castanets and other percussion they have at home. It will not be the first concert for our audience to participate with the musicians in the programme but this time it is highly unlikely that the musicians will be the overpowered ones! The joint repertoire will include a piece by each of the two Johann Strauss – father and son. “Radetzky March” and “Tritsch-Tratsch-Polka” guarantee for a loud, joyful and rapturous finale.
