The Pillow Concerts season finale presents a fully classical programme. There will be three works by different composers scored for the rare chamber ensemble of clarinet, violoncello and piano. This inspiring programme will be performed by three musicians who will debut as a trio. Yavor Dobrev, Stefan Hadjiev and Veneta Neynska – each one of them has an impressive stage experience and has proven his or her talent to enchant repeatedly the audience with their performances. Beethoven, Bruch and Brahms are the three eminent German composers whose magnificent music will be heard on May 29th, 2016, 11a.m.
Beethoven wrote his clarinet trio quite early in his career. He was strongly influenced by the popularity of the woodwind instruments at the end of the 18th century. Bruch composed his Eight Pieces, op. 83 a full century later but in contrast to his contemporaries, he was not tempted to follow the alternative musical trends and stayed faithful to the traditional romantic style. Brahms included the clarinet in four of his chamber works. A colleague of his said about the Trio in A Minor, op.114 that “It is as though the instruments were in love with each other.”

The list of famous melodies by Russian composers is never ending but when we add the film music, children songs and popular melodies, it becomes impossible to cover everything in just a single concert. Besides the impossibility of this task, we have made a firm decision to dive into the richness of the Russian musical world after we have armed ourselves with our strongest asset. The happiest, loud and loved brass quintet in Bulgaria is still struggling with finding a name but with or without it, trumpeter Yan Dunev will lead his colleagues Costas Gkiavouris (trumpet), Mihail Mihailov (French horn), Yavor Kostov (trombone) and Georgi Iliev (tuba) through the music of Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky and even to Cheburashka and Crocodile Gena’s songs.
This time, during the Pillow Workshop we are making our version of the most popular Russian toy – the Matryoshka. Beautiful, colourful and fun – the children’s creativity will be included in every doll one hour before the concert.
