Although never published in Bulgaria and therefore unknown for the Bulgarian children, the Story of the elephant Babar is a favorite to millions of people in the world. Its origins are French – author Jean de Brunhoff created it and the eminent A.A. Milne, father of Winnie the Pooh, is responsible for the English version. The elephant Babar goes through various troubles, learns about the live in the city and brings this knowledge to his friends, the other elephants. He becomes the King of the Elephant Kingdom and teaches his children valuable lessons.
The music was created by Fransic Poulenc who wrote it for the pleasure of his nieces and nephews. The one piano, four hands version is by Paul Yoon Lee and will be performed by the duo Manuela Genova-Ralitza Dimitrova. The two young pianists were awarded with an impressive number of prizes from piano duo competitions and will add an additional piece in the programme by the same composer – his vigorous Sonata for four hands.
