Professor Pantcho Vladiguerov National Music Academy, Concert Hall
94, Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Blvd, Sofia
Exactly 12 years ago, on November 21st, the Christian Family Day, the first Pillow Concert took place. Hundreds of concerts, thousands of happy families and countless prestigious awards and accolades later, we had to stop holding our favorite concerts at first due to the pandemic, and then – because of losing our irreplaceable Dorotea Doroteeva, without whom the concerts simply could not continue. For the past three years, not a single Pillow Concert has taken place, but this Christmas we will resume the initiative, inspired by a very special project created by a person dear to us and to our whole society.
At a first glance, Mariela Tsekova is a fragile and gentle lady, but underneath her exquisite smile hides an unsuspected dose of determination and a sense of justice. We know her from her tireless work in the “Svetulka” project to reconstruct children’s wards in Bulgarian hospitals, as well as from her huge contribution to the “For Good” Foundation, which, even to this day, does the impossible to support the Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria.
Her cause to create a children’s library in the village of Yasen, Pleven county, touched us to the bottom of our souls, because for us, as well as, we believe, for the audience of the Pillow Concerts, the most important thing is that our children live in a passionate, free world full of laughter, knowledge and happiness. More than once, we have witnessed how during the concerts there is a feeling that all children are our common responsibility, that we, as parents, have the obligation to provide them with a better, more reliable and more meaningful world.
Mariela’s grandparents, Georgi and Nenka Stefanovi, made the school in the village of Yasen their personal mission and taught there all their lives. There live 51 children who do not have their own library, despite several attempts to create one. A few days ago, we received the sad news that grandpa Georgi has left this world without seeing Mariela’s dream come true. We are left with the task to do what is necessary to help her achieve it as soon as possible.
We are happy to announce that on December 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. a Charity Pillow Concert will be held, the proceeds of which will be fully invested in the creation of a children’s library in the village of Yasen. We have the unconditional support by our host, the Professor Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music and specially – the exceptional empathy of its current principal, Prof. Sava Dimitrov. The concert will present everyone’s favourite Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, and the performers are the most dazzling musical line-up ever to perform at the Pillow Concerts. You will hear more about them in the coming days here, as well as on our page on FaceBook.
ATTENTION! Since the concert is entirely charitable and there is no planned budget for advertising, we rely very much on your help in spreading the word about it among your friends and loved ones. Invite them, tell them all about it and let’s create a celebration of music, knowledge and love together!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of you for loving the beauty of music all these years!
