11:00 and 17:00
Union of the architects in Bulgaria
Sofia,11 Krakra Str.,
The Pillow Concerts’ Italian month continues with our special guest from Italy, the eminent harpsichordist Sauro Argalia. The master of the baroque instrument performs throughout Europe and is visiting Bulgaria on invitation by the Pillow Concerts. As a predecessor of the piano, the harpsichord is very much alike its contemporary relative in its outer appearance but their sound is quite different. Gentle guitar-like chords, elegant melodies, and virtuoso runs are characteristic for this instrument, developed long ago during the Middle Ages.
For the first time in our programme we will hear harpsichord works by Italian baroque composers. A special attention will be given to Domenico Scarlatti who was born on the date of the Pillow Concert, October 26, exactly 329 years ago. In addition, we will hear the Battle Dance by Bernardo Storace, the Cuckoo’s Toccata and scherzo by Bernardo Pasquini and more music by Baldassare Galuppi and Pergolesi. The musical programme will be preceded by the Pillow Workshop and followed by the Pillow Musical Lesson.
